ever since i got access to american library cards thanks to tumblr user anneemay (pbuh) 2 weeks ago ive lost even the 3% sympathy i had for americans crying ofc we’re stupid and illiterate our schools suck!!! because you assholes have had FREE ACCESS to THOUSANDS of books and audiobooks and classic films this ENTIRE TIME you’ve been blaming your schools for your elected ignorance!!! from my home in India I’ve listened to eight audiobooks and watched half of cronenberg’s oevre and I’m watching nosferatu (1922) today and I can’t even go to a library in person and you people have had these things your entire life yet you come on tumblr at 18 19 20 and say you don’t know who james baldwin is and if you expect me to you’re classist and 18 year old Americans are too stupid to know bombing foreign countries kills people so it’s okay if they choose to do that rather than work at McDonald’s and of course I have no idea what stocks are or what colonialism is and MCU is the height of cinema and it’s feminist to wear makeup like. my god. you people are going to go through the rest of your life being incoherently stupid and it’s not because you’re poor and it’s not because your schools suck but its because you’re so ensconced in your American privilege that you will never be forced to confront the realities of life and you can go on living your Disney adult fantasies because you’ve destroyed your innate human curiosity and potential at the altar of hyper consumption.

Fun Fact:
I got an angry email from a parent last year because I showed Coraline in class. (On the last day before a holiday! Not even during normal class!)
They said I was unfit to be a teacher and that I was a 'threat to the spiritual well-being of (student)' because I subjected their (13-year-old) kid to 'unholy things'. They also said I had single-handedly shaken their faith in the school system.
Because I had shown Coraline. To a 13-year-old.
The most ridiculous part is that the kid went home and was talking about how much they *enjoyed* the movie. I'm not sure if the parent was just looking for something to get mad about or if they honestly think Coraline is capable of destroying the souls of the innocent. 🤔

“Lolllll English teachers read into everything like it’s not that deep bro”
I will bite your nose off. I will sink my teeth into the cartilage and tear. No one in your high school English class thought you were funny. No one thought you were clever when you snickered about “blue curtains” behind the underpaid teacher’s back. I would say you peaked in high school if not for the fact you actually peaked in middle school. You need to wake up. You weren’t cool in school, you’re not cool now. Devaluing the desperate but failed efforts your teachers made to teach you reading comprehension doesn’t make you look cool. You look so dumb right now, and I’m going to bite your nose off. How are you gonna turn up your nose to the work of writers when you don’t have one?

once again thinking about how fucked up it is that special ed used me and other disabled children as unpaid, coerced labor. i worked enough to be making $100 a week. i was "paid" in fake money redeemable only at the school cafeteria, which i worked at, and was forced to do things that distressed me. they gave us $1 a week, if they remembered to give it to us at all.
this was while i would sometimes go the entire day without eating because i didn't have the money to buy food and the free food was not sensory safe. we also worked outside the community - grocery stores, warehouses, shoe stores security tagging items. all under the guise of job skill development, we did $100 of labor a week without ever getting paid. and we were demeaned while we did it. and we were just teens.
so no, i don't want to hear about how special education is good. not with the way me and my peers were treated and taken advantage of. death to institutionalization, in all forms.

when there are easily verifiable facts available such as what city a museum is located in, or if a condition is genetic, or perhaps the speed at which one would have to travel to get from point a to b in a certain number of hours. why would you not verify these facts

reblog if you think these are all valid reasons for a student or an employee to take a day off from their school or their job without their grades or paycheck being affected in any way:
- period cramps
- exhaustion, be it mental or physical
- depression, anxiety, and other mental health related issues

You know those teachers who would have posters in their classrooms like “weird is a superpower” and “in a world where you can be anything, be kind” then would proceed to scream at a neurodivergent child until they cried.
